Ascents Dialog
Video collaboration and team-operations platform, in production
Dialog started as an async-video tool and grew into the operating system our team runs on: video with automated captions and AI summaries, live WebRTC meetings, tasks, a Notion-style documents system, time tracking with recorded reflections, and a full payroll, compliance and contracts suite. I authored 500+ of roughly 1,400 commits as project lead and shipped it to production at dialog.hereandmore.com.

What I built
- Video pipeline: FFmpeg SVT-AV1 and Google Cloud Transcoder multi-rendition encoding with CMAF-packaged HLS/DASH, an H.264 path that fixed iOS playback, checkpointed transcode jobs with orphan recovery, and per-team storage quotas across S3, GCS and local storage.
- Self-hosted AI stack that replaced OpenAI: vLLM serving Qwen on GCP A100/L4 VMs behind an OpenAI-compatible gateway, faster-whisper live captions with speaker attribution, and map-reduce summarization for meetings over four hours.
- Team-operations suite delivered in one month: a seven-tab accountability dashboard, payroll and invoices, bonuses, leave, and a contract wizard with live DOCX/PDF preview, plus per-team custom RBAC, passkey auth and 2FA.
- Tauri 2 desktop companion shipped to v1.0: device-code pairing, telemetry with pre-upload redaction, reflection recording with resilient multipart uploads, and a self-updating release pipeline.
- Operated the 9-container production stack (Caddy L4 SNI routing, LiveKit SFU and Egress, coturn, Postgres, Redis) with IAP-tunneled zero-exposure deploys.
